The Run Script command will run all the statements and/or SQL*Plus commands in the worksheet. This is the command to use when you have multiple statements or want to format the output using supported SQL*Plus commands. Below the SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES; we entered in the worksheet, enter SELECT * FROM DEPARTMENTS; and then click the Run Script button or press F5. The output will be displayed in the Script Output window alongside the Query Result window. Notice that the output is almost identical to what you have seen in SQL*Plus and is displayed below in Figure 2-15.

When working with authentication, our job never ends with the login process. In our applications, we commonly want to do a number of things relating to authentication. The first is to simply answer the question Do we have a logged-in user Once authentication succeeds, you have a new method available to you on your request context object $c: the $c->user() method. Calling this method will return the current user, or undef if there isn t one. You will get very familiar with $c->user as you develop applications, as it is the way you obtain information about the current user. Unfortunately, there is a drawback to calling $c->user in some cases, and that is that calling $c->user triggers the restoration of the user from the session. Depending on the complexity of your application and user object, this can be an expensive operation. If, for example, the use_userdata_from_session option were off, the call to $c->user would trigger a load of data from the database.

In addition to standard features that manage document types and data associated with them, Concordance also has the ability to import and manage specific instances of document records known as transcripts and depositions. Although not normally part of data harvesting,

transcripts and depositions are an important part of the lifecycle of a legal matter. Having ready access to them in a searchable form can be useful to a legal team. A transcript is a typewritten record. In the legal industry, transcripts are drafted by court reporters during a legal proceeding. Outside a court of law, legal staff may record witness testimony in a similar manner, and these written records are known as depositions. Transcripts and depositions are well-defined and highly structured documents. Page size is usually 8.5 ! 11 ; individual pages are numbered; individual lines of text are double-spaced, and are also numbered. Although there s some variation, each line usually contains no more than 60 characters, and each page usually contains no more than 25 lines per page. Often, each line contains a timestamp. Transcripts and depositions may contain Q&A pairs that represent questions and answers. An example of a transcript is displayed in Figure 1-5.

Note Only the first call to $c->user in a request triggers restoration from the session. All subsequent calls to $c->user within the same request use the restored data, and thus do not come with the penalty just described.

Note Not all supported SQL*Plus commands are properly interpreted for Run Script. For example, the COLUMN command did not change the column headings, but SET FEEDBACK OFF worked as expected.

If a transcript or deposition is in an electronic format, and if that format is acceptable to Concordance, the program can import the file as a document record, as in Figure 1-6. Procedures for importing and searching transcripts and depositions are described in greater detail in 6.
